Springfield, MO – The Disaster Relief operation for Missouri continues as staff and volunteers of the Greater Ozarks Regional Chapter remain committed to the mission of providing relief to all victims of disaster.
Volunteers have completed disaster assessment in most of the affected areas that have experienced flooding and have moved on to client casework. As of yesterday, May 12th, 2011 the Greater Ozarks Chapter has opened 61 cases and has helped 137 people with immediate needs.
Those immediate needs include items like: Food, Water, Clothing, Shoes, Blankets, Storage containers, Coolers, Portable Cribs and Baby Linens, Bedding, Stuffed animals for children, Comfort kits (these include hygiene items like razors, soap, combs, etc.), and Clean up kits (these contain things like bleach, broom, dust pans, mops, shovels, gloves, etc). In severe cases the Red Cross will help with first month’s rent or a security deposit.
The relief operation in Southeast Missouri continues, our Cape Girardeau office is working client casework for the nine counties affected by the floods in their area. The Red Cross Greater Ozarks Chapter and Southeast Missouri Chapter are working tirelessly to provide help and emotional support. Preparations are also being made to respond to any flooding which may occur in the days to come along the swollen Mississippi River.
As of May 12, 2011 your American Red Cross has provided over 900 people with a warm place to sleep, food and emotional support in Missouri. They have also provided over 55,000 meals and snacks, over 800 clean-up kits, 775 comfort kits, and over 14,000 bulk items such as work gloves, bleach, mops, and shovels have been distributed. Your Red Cross remains committed to help people begin to recover from the devastating storms.
