Red Cross Starts Damage Assessment
May 3, 2011
Springfield, MO – The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross deployed damage assessment teams this morning to assess damage to homes due to high waters in affected areas such as Taney County. They will identify, collect and communicate disaster assessment information.
After receiving a report from the damage assessment teams, the chapter will have volunteers begin casework with the people whose homes have been affected. Casework will begin Wednesday morning about 8 a.m. The caseworkers will meet with the individuals and determine how they can best help with immediate needs.
Caseworkers have been meeting with family members in McDonald County and as of today they have helped 39 people with assistance that may have included food, bedding, linens, clothing, lodging, storage containers or clean-up kits and shovels.
As a result of the spring storms in Missouri, the Red Cross continues its relief efforts. As of May 2, 2011, more than 800 people have been given a safe place to sleep, more than 27,000 meals and snacks have been served, and more than 15, 500 relief supplies such as toiletry items, blankets, toys, clean-up kits and more have been distributed.
